The Murder of Liz Barraza
VICTIM OVERVIEW:
Liz Barraza was born Elizabeth Marie Nuelle on June 26, 1989 in Elk
Grove Village, Illinois to parents Robert Nuelle Jr. and Rosemary Nuelle. Liz was the youngest child, she only had one sibling, her older brother Robert III. Liz's family moved around in her early years, eventually settling in the greater Houston area. Liz attended Klein Collins High School and graduated in 2008. After highschool Liz began her freshman year at Stephen F. Austin University, eventually transferring to Sam Houston State University in 2009. While attending Sam Houston, Liz met the love of her life, Sergio Barraza. They adopted a dog named Diesel together, and Liz graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology in 2012. Sergio and Liz got married February 1st, 2014 and bought their home in Tomball, Texas in April of 2016. Liz was described as a kind, generous, and always happy person. She loved the Harry Potter series, Star Wars, Cosplay, attending Renaissance festivals. Liz and Sergio were both members of the 501st Legion, a star wars cosplay group that raises money for charity, and cheering up sick children at the local Memorial Hermann Hospital. At the time of her death Liz was employed at The Rosen Group as a data reporter in the oil and gas industry. Sergio was a crew chief for his dad's flooring company.
THE GARAGE SALE:
-On January 24th 2019, Liz and Sergio decided to have a garage sale in the coming days to raise money for their upcoming anniversary trip to Orlando, Florida. The trip was planned for Sunday, January 27th 2019. Liz's suitcase was already packed, and remains so to this day.
-There were a few inconsistencies about when the garage sale signs were put out. Initially Sergio stated that they has placed the signs that morning, later saying it was the day before on Thursday. Nobody recalls seeing any signs, nor were any photos taken of any such signs.
-On Friday, January 25th Liz took off work to host the garage sale. Very few people knew about the sale, it was never posted on social media or advertised.
TIMELINE:
6:08AM: Liz heads to Starbucks for coffee
6:16AM: Liz returns home and begins setting up for the garage sale
6:17-6:47AM: Liz and Sergio spend time arranging items in the driveway
6:47AM- Suspect vehicle arrives in Goddard School parking lot near Princeton Place Drive
6:48AM: Sergio leaves for work and at the same time the suspect vehicle leaves the school parking lot, and conceals on a nearby street.
6:51AM: The suspect vehicle comes back into camera view and heads toward the Barraza's home.
6:52AM: The suspect does a 3 point turn on Cedarwalk Drive, parks behind Liz's vehicle and heads towards Liz's driveway.
6:52.20-6:52.50AM: Liz says “Good Morning” and then the murderer speaks to her for about 6 seconds. There are 3 quick shots and then a fourth shot delivered point blank once Liz has collapsed to the driveway.
6:53AM: Suspect sprints back towards the truck and flees
6:53.49AM: Neighbor across the street calls 911, while on the line with dispatch the suspect vehicle returns 58 seconds into the call.
6:58AM: Harris County Pct. 4 Constables arrive on scene
7:19AM: Constables clear the Barraza home, triggering the home security system. The alarm company attempted to contact Liz, but after being unsuccessful, contacted Liz's parents, who immediately headed toward her home. after also being unable to reach her.
UNKNOWN TIME: Cypress Creek Fire and EMS arrive on scene and calls for life flight
7:21AM: Life flight arrives and transports Liz to Memorial Hermann Downtown
7:36AM: Bob and Rosemary arrive on scene and learn the news
7:38AM: Sergio returns home to a heavy police prescence
*Sergio did not come to the hospital until later in the afternoon, spent time talking to neighbors and press, also walking his dog*
-On Saturday, January 26th 2019 at 1:40PM Liz is pronounced dead, and organ donation services are discussed and set up.
-Liz's heart, liver, kidneys, and corneas continue to live on in others, she was even able to bless one person with the gift of sight
-A vigil was held as a call for justice on February 1st, 2019 at the Barraza home, luminary lanterns were launched in her honor
SUSPECT VEHICLE:
-2013-2019 Black Nissan Frontier Pro-4X, 4 Door
-Seen on Barraza's neighborhood cameras around 2AM on the morning of her murder
-License plate readers, Stolen vehicle reports and tow logs have come up empty
LIFE INSURANCE:
-Liz had a $250,000 life insurance policy that doubled under the clause of murder, making it around $500,000. Sergio is the beneficiary but he has been explicitly told that he should not try to collect that money until he has been cleared entirely and the case is solved. Until then, detectives have made it clear that he is unable to collect that money.
ISSUES:
-After scouring all of Sergio and Liz's records, there is no evidence of marital issues, an affair, or financial problems.
-Sergio has pointed the finger at his father being involved. Says that Liz was upset about a bounced check from his Dad and his father was facing intense financial issues and a divorce.
THE SUSPECT:
-5'4-5'8, wearing what appears to be a wig, a long robe, and thigh to knee high boots
-Murder weapon is most likely a .38 revolver, no casings were found at the scene
-Lots of speculation over if its a male or female shooter
CONCLUSION/EXTRA INFO:
-Sergio lived with Liz's parents for about a year after the murder
-He met and started dating a women (A), from a dating app in 2020
-Him and (A) get engaged and married in 2021
-(A) has taken and passed a polygraph, and has been cleared of any involvement whatsoever, and she is very outspoken on socials about sharing Liz's story.

Please help get justice and closure for the family, this murder was beyond cruel and heinous, it was pure evil. She didn't deserve that. She deserves justice.
